Troublemaker's MV under controversy for similarities to Rihanna's "We Found Love"

Article: "Can they still call themselves Hallyu? Embarrassing" Troublemaker under controversy for suspicions of plagiarizing their music video

Source: Kuki News via Nate

1. [+1,792, -92] Sigh... as if kids like them can call themselves leaders of Hallyu

2. [+1,632, -74] Did they really want to shoot that kind of a music video even if they had to resort to copying?

3. [+1,601, -63] It's similar to the point where you can't deny it..

4. [+80, -13] Well, all pornos are similar to a certain extent

5. [+80, -14] Sigh.. embarrassing..

6. [+72, -7] I thought Troublemaker would be a one time thing... and honestly, as a B2ST fan myself, their comeback is not welcome. With our country still behind in sex education, we're not ready for advancement in sex culture like this.

7. [+54, -15] Really embarrassing

8. [+49, -12] They can use IU's excuse and call it a cliche of love.

Ouch, seems like Cube can't do any shit now

  5. The whole vibe of the MV reeks of stereotypical American music video but I kinda dig the song.

  6.  [+49, -12] They can use IU's excuse and call it a cliche of love.

    Omg this is embarrassing

    ReplyDelete
  7. sorry but I really like we found love video , but this .......

    ReplyDelete
  8. too much similarities

    ReplyDelete
  9. embarrassing......wow

    ReplyDelete
  10. I don't get this MV anyway, is there even a story ?

    ReplyDelete
  11. ok after IU plagiarizing song now TM plagiarizing music video? lol whatever

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well...they did get attention, if that was what they were planning. Plus, I didn't like that grey/white hair.

    ReplyDelete
  13. As a result of this, some b2uties are trying to divert attention away from it by accusing GD of doing the same lol. But its obviously a huge reach and mostly generic stuff you can find in lots of videos.

  14. yeah if they call that music video palgiarism, then all SM idols should be under contoversy for copying each other

    ReplyDelete
  15. how dare u are breathe? how can u dare to be walk? o my... stop ... these peopel ........... how????? how u can????????? o my.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Agreed, that's hiphop afterall.

    ReplyDelete
  17. MV makes no sense and the song aint even all that.sorry but very bad comeback.

    ReplyDelete
  18. the real question is why Hyuna has blue hair in some scene and not in others lolololo

    ReplyDelete
  19. you mean their face? lmao

    ReplyDelete
  20. .....I was really waiting for this response to be quite honest.

We're talking about a society that is going to slam pretty much anything that is remotely sexual, so really bringing up the similarities to the 'We Found Love' MV is really just become another reason to hate on them.

That being said I do think it's quite heavily inspired by it so I can't disagree with them :/

    ReplyDelete
  21. :O i should of not laughed at this lol

    ReplyDelete
  22. They're just making themselves look stupid tbh

    ReplyDelete
  23. i thought i was the only one :D

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't understand how they could fully copy an MV? Everyone had turned stupid in CUBE?

    Plagiarism controversy again... :|

    Fans: It's director's fault.

Cube: The car's color is different. and ... *call an expert to explain the detail*

    ReplyDelete
  29. it's really similar to we found love i think, i mean, they were in love or are in love, and they fight or there were times when they fought, well besides for rihanna puking paper or something and junhyun suddenly turned into joker *creepy*, no meaning..yea hahahaha-_-

    ReplyDelete
  30. It's like every MV nowadays. Give it a rest.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I want the invincible youth hyuna back :(

    ReplyDelete
  32. maybe it's just "kiss sex vomit kiss fight sex kiss smoke sex dance kiss and kiss" idk

    ReplyDelete
  33. it's just the protrait of a broken relationship
it's not like MVs usually have complex story lines, they're not dramas

    ReplyDelete
  34. Honestly, how can companies do this and expect no one to notice? It must be done purposefully. Afterall, more views means a better chance at winning on inkigayo

    ReplyDelete
  35. so why "drama version" on the teaser .____. no hate i try to understand

    ReplyDelete
  36. glad I'm not the only one who noticed this

  37. _s_r_kamb_b_s_ °^°October 28, 2013 at 8:08 AM

The song is actually nice to listen to because the best part is I don't need to understand the lyrics. A few scenes could've been copied. The sitting on top and fireworks are cliches but the toy car moving in circles might be a copy.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Just realized it now....wow

    ReplyDelete
  39. i notice it too. but every mv have this kind of scene

    ReplyDelete
  40. But I still waiting their live performance. Their dance its cool.

    ReplyDelete
  41. because it's not just them dancing, there's this portrait I said.
If you don't get this mv, wich is quite simple, I wonder how can you sit through g-dragon's mvs? They aren't supposed to tell you a story with details

    ReplyDelete
  42. [+80, -13] Well, all pornos are similar to a certain extent

    .................... its not porn tho?

tbh the parts where they were kissing and shit were the nicest parts of the video because it was normal, believable behaviour for a couple.
I could've done without the car bit, the joker bit that had nothing to do with anything and the beginning with the two random girls. I don't get why the dysfunctional relationship trope is so popular but they could've had the argument/dysfunction without suggesting infidelity, Hyunsung getting aggressive towards the two random girls and then throwing money at them (which made me raise an eyebrow tbh)

    ReplyDelete
  43. the car moving in rihanna's mv wasn't a thing, it just appeared for a couple of seconds

    ReplyDelete
  44. This is a huge L for kpop. How silly can you be? Do you know how much international attention kpop gets? As if no one would notice?? CUBE better do damage control before angry Rihanna stans starts tweeting about it...

    ReplyDelete
  45. I read explanations :).

    ReplyDelete
  46. LOL I knew it! Even the trouble maker MV was kind of similar to the sexy back MV!

    ReplyDelete
  47. They've been calling it 'porn' ever since the pic of Hyuna in her underwear on top of him. Obviously these people have never seen porn in their lives.

    ReplyDelete
  48. " the joker bit that had nothing to do with anything "

it's supposed to show his dark side

"the beginning with the two random girls."

    that's the cheating part, obviously

    ReplyDelete

There's inspired and then there's identical cuts and costumes.

Inspired means you put the car on a beach and have them bang in the bed of a pick up truck. Identical is front seat, girl on top, in garters, in a yellow wheat field.

    ReplyDelete
  50. lol there's thousands of mvs like that

    ReplyDelete
  51. do South Korea had porn?? like real porn?? /really asking

    I've only seen soft yaoi

    ReplyDelete
  52. _s_r_kamb_b_s_ °^°October 28, 2013 at 8:17 AM

    Its not even hiphop

    ReplyDelete
  53. korea doesn't make it's own porn but it's one of the countries that consumes the most porn

    ReplyDelete
  54. the imges used are used very often in hiphop, that's what he/she emant

    ReplyDelete
  55. We found love is about a toxic relationship as well as addiction to drugs. How they both found love in the same place (sharing drugs, alcohol and sex) but it's slowly killing them as well as their relationship. They can't seem to let go of each other, but at the same time, if one doesn't let go, both will go down together. With This MV, I didn't even know what their story was. Were they lovers? Are they still together? Is she at clubs dancing away her life and drinking and he is with multiple women but still wanting her? I just didn't really get it. Oh well..

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think they looks similar because both used a same concept which is the famous criminal couple Bonnie and Clyde.

    ReplyDelete
  57. you did not just go there :o

    ReplyDelete
  58. /dead and buried
if there's gonna be a compilation of '2013's best replies'... yours will definitely be a part of it.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Sorry for riding on your comment, but let me explain the concept of the MV. People are misunderstanding that this MV is just a typical American MV.

Their concept is "Bonnie and Clyde". Bonnie and Clyde is a criminal couple that actually existed in early 1900s. Their motivation was to commit crimes but without murdering anyone. Unfortunately, they had to murder someone in a middle of a crime so the police starts chasing them. As they run away, they start getting into fights with each other so they have affairs. In the MV, you can see Hyunseung sleeping with other girls and Hyuna going to clubs and dancing with guys. But they know that they still love each other so Hyunseung kicks the girls out and Hyuna pushes the guys approaching her.

They know that they will be caught by the police tomorrow as the title says (There is no tomorrow) so they make their final moments with each other (making out, playing with fireworks, etc) And at the end of the MV, you see the couple caught in the middle of cars, it's showing that the couple is caught by the police. The actual Bonnie and Clyde couple was also caught by the police and shot to deaths.

    ReplyDelete
  60. omg i laughed a way too hard at this why

    ReplyDelete
  61. ..and this too.
i srsly chuckled my face off.

Lawl... isn't always somewhat similiar? Anyways i don't care.... I thought the MV was pretty cool.

    ReplyDelete
  63. it's not such an unique pose tbh probably there's the same one in another mv we aren't even mentioning. The whole concept of tm is a reference to Bonnie and Clyde, a broken relationship, so it's no suprise that it's siilar to an mv that had a simialtr concept, really

    ReplyDelete
  64. Cube said their inspiration was more from the TV show 'Skins', though. I didn't get any Bonnie & Clyde vibe from Trouble Maker's MV at all, even though I wanted it to be.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I was talking about the link provided by the previous comment in relation to GD's apparent plagiarism.

    ReplyDelete
  66. IntenseFeelings_UglySobbingOctober 28, 2013 at 8:24 AM

I love them but seriously the company has no shame. At least try to be more creative. ㅋㅋㅋ

    ReplyDelete
  67. whoneedsadisqusacctOctober 28, 2013 at 8:24 AM

Lol at the pics they used.....oh my god they both have dogs and women in the MV! How could anyone think of including them without plagiarizing!

    ReplyDelete
  68. I guess I'm slow because I actually don't understand what you're referencing to here lol

    ReplyDelete
  69. As a non-fan I watched the MV the moment it was released and didn't think of Rihanna (I fail as her fan). Anyway, I like the song and didn't think much of it; just that I'm not surprised when it comes to them or HyunA. All I know is that she looks gorgeous in this MV and he for once looks decent. They're doing well on the charts, so I hope they continue to do well. PEACE!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Not Bonnie & Clyde, i think cube wants to potrayed Sid vicious & nancy spungen. it will be good if TM make their third comeback then each of them or one of them killed the other one. and dont forget to used drugs too. Knetz might want to see that. ;p

    ReplyDelete
  71. watch the mv first
the creenshots make it seem more than it really is

    ReplyDelete
  72. Maybe try to understand the lyrics?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Saw this coming. Don't really care if it's similar.(at least they left out the drug part)

If it was YG i would judge more harshly because the singers have more say in concept and video/music direction. I don't know how much this was Trouble Maker and how much was Cube and other staff. But it seems they are living up to their name. The "sorry not sorry" attitude works imo.

    ReplyDelete
  74. At least sm is safe since they copy themself xD

    ReplyDelete
  75. what a shity ignorant joke

    ReplyDelete
  76. lmao, I'd love to see their reactions to that.

    ReplyDelete
  77. yes. they also have tons of happy ending parlors, love motels, and a very high percentage of men will pay for sexual favors more than once in their life.

    ReplyDelete
  78. they're smart. noise marketing

    ReplyDelete
  79. SM stans are pissed now .. lmao

    ReplyDelete
  80. Wow two users here are going all out defending these people as if they knew them personally. Whatever, dudes. It is just a freaking MV. It's not like you all get paid or something to defend people who probably don't know you are alive somewhere in your small world. LOL...Kpop fans sometimes amuse me.

    ReplyDelete
  81. LOL.... I'd love to see that too! LOL :D

    ReplyDelete
  82. Which is funny because I got the same 'Skins' vibe from Rihanna's video too.....

    ReplyDelete
  83. 아찔아찔 fantasticOctober 28, 2013 at 8:38 AM

Do you mean SM's overuse of the box set MVs?

    ReplyDelete
  84. Ahh.... so it's from there. I just read it somewhere else about it.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Which made me thinks, maybe they used the same concept, who knows.

    ReplyDelete
  89. i dont think all the sm videos look the same ..except suju

    ReplyDelete
  90. Is it Sid vicious & nancy spungen or from TV show 'Skins' ?? but from Hyuna's style in this MV, she looks similar with Nancy Spungen with that hairstyle.

    ReplyDelete
  91. that's what I'm saying, rihanna didn't create a new concept with her mv either. It's similar to a bunch of other things

    ReplyDelete
  92. comment of the decade . . lol

    ReplyDelete
  93. they totally copied each other's SET BOXES!!111 LOLOL

    ReplyDelete
  94. agree! who care if it's similar or not. Troublemaker is a troublemaker indeed! They won't be named Troublemaker for nothing, kkk :D

    ReplyDelete
  95. It wasn't strikingly similar cause when I watched it 'we found love' didn't come into my mind but now that I see these yeah I see the similarities, and it's not the first time they copy American music videos, like I thought bang yong guk's music video 'I remember' was really similar to 'love the way you lie' too, I just wish kpop would stop being influenced by western singers too much cause the reason we liked it in the first place was because it was different...

    ReplyDelete
  96. Comeback Teaser ReleasedOctober 28, 2013 at 8:47 AM

Why do people keep referencing Bonnie and Clyde? Did Cube say this because it's not obvious in the video. There would be a crime spree, cops and not JUST gratuitous drug use and sex.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Found_Love_(music_video)

    ReplyDelete
  97. imo it's more like sid & nancy concept.

    ReplyDelete
  98. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

    ReplyDelete
  99. yep, they said exactly this

"They will bring you a performance stage that reminisces of the musical 'Bonnie and Clyde'," "

    ReplyDelete
  100. And both the males have silver hair, hmm...

    ReplyDelete
  101. lol i had to restrain my laughing as i am in class right now

    ReplyDelete
  102. I thought that the MV was very well made, much better than Trouble Maker mv if you ask me. Maybe it's just me but the chemistry Now is wayyyyyyyy better :)
About the similarity, it's depend on each's opinion~

    ReplyDelete
  103. There's a running joke that all SM's music videos are filmed in boxes, with similar lighting, effects, and just cut between close-up lip syncing and group dance without much story etc.
Whenever an SM artist "escapes the box", it's a very big deal lol.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Didn't think the Koreans would catch up to it, but yea a lot of international fans were saying it yesterday lol

    ReplyDelete
  105. There lot's of mv in the word that have similarites in them..and in the end who f'ucking cares..i mean i donät care if mv are copied or same kinda i watch it if it's good and if not i i won't watch it.. ><

    ReplyDelete
  106. It's pretty audacious to copy a RiRi music video, and one of her most popular at that, lol.
Idek why they would think it would go by unnoticed. Unless they didn't and they're trying to "make trouble" :X

    ReplyDelete
  107. I really enjoyed the mv and I hardly noticed the similarities with Rihanna's "We Found Love". To me, the mv was better<3 I'm supporting you 2Hyun- Troublemaker^^

    ReplyDelete
  108. Besides, Rihanna should be the LAST to complain about plagiarism considering what happened with her video for "S & M"...

    http://www.theguardian.com/music/2011/oct/20/rihanna-david-lachapelle-lawsuit

    ReplyDelete
  109. Rihanna hasn't complained about anything yet

    ReplyDelete
  110. I dont give a damn about the theme of that video. but, please, just reduce the amount of make-up! it's too much.

    ReplyDelete
  111. the primary concept of troublemaker is to attract attention and they´ve become very successful with that. People pay attention to them not because of their music but by the "controversy" they like to put themselves in. This plagiarism controversy is just another point for them.

    ReplyDelete
  112. The guardian described We Found Love as being very british and having a skins-like quality, so it's not just you.

    ReplyDelete
  113. lmao, 80% of kpop mvs need to be more creative instead of using the same ''dying of illness/ car accident/ one side love stories''

    ReplyDelete
  114. It's up to their company not them -.-'

    ReplyDelete
  115. so they really don't have their own porn..thanks ^^

    ReplyDelete
  116. some of their movies can be softporn (cough Frozen flower cough)and the movies are always hitting it big/getting many views, yet they act like this with an 19+ mv lol

    ReplyDelete
  117. Actually, this was what "Now" reminded me of. That's probably why I was kinda underwhelmed by their comeback.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Welp... Lets just wait to see what shit Cube has to say -_-

    ReplyDelete
  119. amaya aguero monzonOctober 28, 2013 at 9:35 AM

    OOOOOOOOOOOH

    ReplyDelete
  120. It's pretty much the same. Lately every music video has to have a fireworks/sparklers part, like taking place in the dessert or on a beach. I'm tired of seeing that shit.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Hey, at least Hyunseung isn't an actual troublemaker like Chris Brown (even though it was a look-alike in Rihanna's 'We Found Love') :3

Considering CB got arrested for assault just recently XD.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Maybe K-pop doesn't know how to do "sexy" MV's so they got to copy international artists

while this MV only put 19+ label & spread it through youtube
but oh well, some netz had lot to say

    ReplyDelete
  125. not quite too difference in my country

I actually more curious about did SK made their 'own' porn & spread it legally (like Japan etc) ^^

    ReplyDelete
  126. LOL first CUBE copies Beyonces Crazy In Love walk which is seen in Hyunas Bubble Pop intro and now this. Just stop.

    ReplyDelete
  127. It similar, but I don't think they outright plagiarized the video because there are a lot of scenes in Troublemaker's video that wasn't in Rihanna's video. The car scenes, the fireworks, and making out were pretty much the extent of it.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I do watch provocative videos sometimes(i.e seungri's teaser for what about love...watched that in school LOL)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  134. lol it is SM style, nobody else uses box sets other than SM XD

    ReplyDelete
  135. Both Rihanna and Trouble Maker copied Bonnie & Clyde

    (cr to @amazingb2uty)

    [TROUBLE MAKER MV MEANING]
So basically, the music video is related to the musical "Bonnie and Clyde" which is a couple that has been a 'criminal couple' and has been killed at the United States in the year 1976. As you can see in the beginning, Hyunseung slept with two girls and Hyuna is at a club. These two are not together because they are trying to forget about eachother. But as you see,Hyunseung kicks the two girls out, and Hyuna pushes the guy away from the club. These two still love eachother. When Hyuna can't take it, she goes to Hyunseung and these two spend their last night before death. Them two doing fireworks, kissing, setting walls on fire, all becomes a memory the couple shares. Nearly the end of the MV, two cars circle around Hyuna and Hyunseung. These two cars are police cars and they symbolize the couple's upcoming death that day.
Although the music video didn't show their death, just like Bonnie and Clyde,Hyunseung and Hyuna, who were a criminal couple, get shot and killed.
The whole music video portrays a sad romance between a couple that has no other way to love, than death.

    ReplyDelete
  136. "it's one of the countries that consumes the most porn"

One of those bs stats. It has been debunked. Before doing any math, if you just use common sense, it shouldn't make sense at all. Nobody really spends that much money to buy porn in Korea when it's so easy to watch it for free on the internet.

    ReplyDelete
  149. i think they have the same concept..the bonnie and clyde ..criminal couple..but what mv do you think is the best??? for me it's troublemaker's mv..it's the best!!

    ReplyDelete
  150. Lol.. i never heard hyuna or hyunseung called themself as a leader of hallyu. I think something wrong with this journalist =,=" Both of them also never expert their duo can be success like this. Their songs killed all music chart because peoples love it, 2million views in just 1 day because peoples watching it. So,whats wrong? To be honest, i dont really care about comment from netizen because i know when other idols like suju, beast, snsd, infinite, exo or shinee make their comeback stage antis will bashing them and fans of course will back up their idols.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Just copying the first seconds isn't much of a copy though :/

    ReplyDelete

  153. Hyuna is really sexy in Change and she didn't copy international artists

    ReplyDelete
  154. The whole MV was copied? Come on. That's reaching. Did knetz even see both MV's or are they just judging based on the article alone? So what if a couple of scenes are similar? A few seconds of similarity doesn't even count.

  160. There's been a lot of Bonnie and Clyde American MV's. That's a pretty popular story people draw inspiration from. Not everything done in American entertainment is vapid shit. The only ground breaking thing about this MV is it was done in S. Korea by S. Korean idols.

  161. They both used Bonnie & Clyde

  163. MV's serve no real purpose to the context of the music. Keep that in mind. In conclusion BOTH MVs copied the concept of Bonnie & Clyde so I think they are even. Netizens opinions nowadays are absolutely WORTHLESS to me.....IDC what hell they have to say. This MV is rated 18+/19+, NOT 6+ , Both MVs are not targeted towards your age group so whatever these middleschool/highschool kids have to say have no meaning to me since they have not experienced "real life" yet.

In real life ppl ( SOME PPL not all - 18+/19+) smoke, drink, have sex, cheat on each other, and have bad relationships. Not every thing in life is cutesy, boys over flowers, rainbows and unicorns like in most K-POP MVs. I love that K-pop is not being not to say "Westernized" because that is a stretch, but it is becoming more MATURE and showing side of "what real relationships" are like in the real world. And showing a realistic approach, by telling a realistic story.

NETIZENS NOT EVERY THING IN AMERICAN MUSIC IS ORIGINAL or have ORIGINAL IDEAS. * I live here* Keep that in mind. Only some scenes are similar, but that is only a few seconds of each MV so it doesn't count. Besides the controversy Troublemaker is doing receiving praise to some extent ( amongst International fans anyway) and All-Kills on the charts so your opinions really don't matter. As an International fan I plan on showing my support and buying the mini album + poster if it comes with one. TROUBLEMAKER Hwaiting! ^_^

let's not blame troublemaker here though, it's all the productions fault they must of had seen the video and decided to imitate it but lbr rihanna's video isn't very original either

  169. Whatever. Everything is a copy of something else nowadays anyway.
And it's kinda nice to see someone other than Ga In/Brown Eyed Girls go for the mature, genuinely sexy concept. The whole "we're selling sex but not really because look how cute and innocent we are despite all the hip thrusting and skimpy clothes" thing K-Pop is so fond of (especially when it comes to women) is creepy and gross.

  171. I think korean netizens are just hating like always, their comments don't even make sense.

  172. OMG finally someone else said this! I'm a SONEJACK myself but I hate it when ppl call HyunA a slut when wehn even my own bias group ( SNSD) is wearing short shorts or hot pants, or male idols wearing hot pants and revealing clothing, all the same yet they don't get criticized. I think ppl are just jealous of the confidence HyunA has in her looks, body, and sex appeal. She embraces who she is , and I love that about her. <3

  182. Lol I literally said this yesterday! There are a bunch of similarities between the two. I literally wondered why they went with that concept for the MV because to me it didn't make much sense...

I read comments below of people saying that they are both copying Bonnie & Clyde but they really aren't. The similarities are by the scenes of the MV not the whole idea of being in love and on the run or whatever Bonnie & Clyde stan for.
